Exhibits

The exhibits in the Wayne Museum are focused on the history of the city of Wayne. From its beginnings as a log tavern in 1824 to the large city it is today Wayne is always changing. Wayne has a rich past of transportation and automotive history due to its proximity to railroads, materials and Detroit. The town was once the largest producer of carriages in the country, then shifted to automobiles and hosted no less than 6 different car companies. A local Wayne company even produced aircraft for over 20 years, later building planes used in WWII. After the war, the population of the city exploded, going from a town of 4,000 to a city of over 22,000. This boom brought in a lot of new ideas, challenges and personalities that would shape Wayne forever. The city has had a lot of ups and downs, and the museum is an important place to not only learn about the past but to learn from it.
